Spotlight on our Alumni: Haydee Olinger

It's Thursday, so time to meet another one of our great alumni. Today the spotlight is on Haydee Olinger, a Vice President whose work focuses on creating a strong ethical culture and takes her around the globe.

Tell us about your job?
I am the Global Chief Compliance Officer for McDonald’s Corporation. I am responsible for developing, monitoring and implementing McDonald’s compliance program around the world. The program is designed to ensure compliance with the company’s code of conduct, all other company policies and all applicable federal, state and local statutes, laws and regulations. It is also designed to encourage ethical decision making.

What are your best memories about studying at SLPA?
I enjoyed the daily, on-line student interaction. I learned many things from the other students who could, during any particular course, be located anywhere around the world. Their varied work and life experiences added a unique dimension to our student discussions.

What is your leadership philosophy?
My leadership philosophy is simple--get to know your employees, and treat them the way you would like to be treated. I believe in continuous interaction with subordinates. Leaders should not just sit in their offices working and delegating tasks. Engaging subordinates in conversation helps a leader to identify what motivates each individual and what concerns the employee may have.

What book are you reading right now that you would recommend?
I am currently reading– 501 Ideas for Your Compliance and Ethics Program, by Joe E. Murphy, JD, CCEP. We are working on revitalizing our compliance program as we enter our 10th year, and I find that many of the ideas in the book are things that are simple to implement, yet can improve the program.
